Winter Preparations
Red squirrel with bouncing tail
Ascends the cedar,
Tree top sways in autumn gail.
Jaws stuffed with shredded bark
He scrambles upward,
Building out his winter’s ark.
Cold comes with frightful speed,
Winter gathers,
A catalyst of urgent need.
